Miniature in oil on ivory signed George Brown and dated 1826 \148,000
The miniature has been remounted and it has its original board behind where in manuscript it says "Gaiety, Painted by George Brown in 1826". This makes for a fantastic neoclassical study of a woman with arms raised above her. The woman / maiden is holding and playing a tambourine. She has large blue eyes and she is looking to the left. The woman has short hair in the classical style; this being held with a bandThe woman is nearly covered with classical drapery chiffon; this exposing her right breast. The woman has fabulously coloured skirt and the sky behind her has Blake styling. This makes for a wonderful Georgian / George IV / early 19th century painting. The painting is in excellent condition; it is beautifully painted and beautifully detailed. There is one split to the ivorine at the left hand side; this is of little consequence. This is a very charming nude study with brightly coloured palette. Interestingly, behind the mount, there is "Items of Interest, No. 10, Christ Church YPSCE", a little booklet that originally cost one penny and dates to October 1899. The booklet contains extracts which are "Mr Meyer is certainly going to be a very active president during his year of office in the Christian Endeavour Union of Great Britain and Ireland" and other such items of interest. The frame has wonderful deep relief moulding to the spandrels and waved mouldings with flower and acanthus leaf moulding decoration. The painting itself, within its frame, measures 3.25 inches by 4.5 inches
